Here we have an incredibly rare Alleva Coppolo – the second one ever made by the wonderful luthier Jimmy Coppolo in his New York workshop before he moved to the west coast!
It was originally hand built for one of Jimmy’s best friends known as ‘Big Red’ – it was inscribed with his name on the neck plate.
It features Jimmy’s original design headstock before he moved on to the larger shape he’s known for today.
It was originally built as a passive instrument but has now been fitted with a genuine, early build, Alleva Coppolo pre-amp hand wired by Jimmy to work specifically with his home-grown pickups. This pre-amp/pickup combination is really special and is a key component in the great ‘organic’ tone available from all Alleva Coppolo instruments and making them a favourite for lots of pro gigging musicians in the USA.
It has been gigged and shows some wear but the beautiful Dakota Red finish is in overall very good condition and is perfectly set off by the matching headstock.
It’s very rare to see any pre-owned Alleva Coppolo instruments available and to get such an early serial number and with the original headstock is a real find. As Alleva prices keep rising this could be a very good little ‘usable’ investment for someone. . .
